HA7 - Task 4 - Mesh Construction

How are 3D models constructed? Describe and explain the different modelling techniques available to a 3D designer.

From my personal experience there are two methods of making 3D shapes that I refer to as Solid and Vertex.

Solid is from sources like unity, where you work with basic solid objects and alter their shapes mainly through moving, rotating and extruding.

Vertex is from sources like blender, where you create shapes from vertexes, edges and faces, which is much more complex but allows for more detailed models.

These two methods are used in creating everything from the levels and scenery to the characters and equipment. They are also sometimes interchangeable, as you can import the blender objects into unity to have more complex objects for your scenes.

The models in 3D space are constructed of a "mesh" of 2D shapes that, when combined and connected, form a 3D shape. These meshes are usually made of quads covering the large areas and tris in the smaller, more detailed areas.
